Vijayawada: After the daylight snatching of a bag containing Rs 14.5 lakh from a woman in Guntur on Wednesday, two men snatched a bag with Rs 7.99 lakh from a man here on Thursday. The man, K. Padmanabha Rao, 60, was crossing the road after withdrawing the money from a SBI branch.
Meanwhile two unidentified persons came on black Pulsar motorcycle and snatched the cash bag from the elderly person forcing him to hit and drag on road.
The culprits fled from the scene within minutes. Padmanabha Rao drew the money for flat registration purpose and the person who accompanied him was on the other side of the road where their vehicle was parked.
Police are highly suspecting same persons accused in Guntur robbery might have been involved in the incident as the modus operandi was similar.
"The robbers likely may be same persons and we are investigating in that particular angle. We have contacted the Guntur police and confirmed the mode of operation is exactly the same ", said central ACP D.V. Nageswara Rao.
Lack of CC cameras outside the banks has also come under scanner with the latest incident.
The SBI bank from which the victim drew money does not have any CC cameras outside despite police asking them to arrange surveillance cameras at all the banks in city since similar robberies took place in the recent past.
"There are no CC cameras focusing outside the SBI bank and we are verifying the footage of cameras inside the bank and near by shops", said Machavaram inspector Ch. Murali Krishna. He said, the culprits might have observed the man while drawing such a huge amount from the bank and later snatched the bag as part of the plan.
