As part of this programme, the Australian government will provide three million Australian dollars to 16 research scholars from these institutes for research for the next three years.
Dean of international and alumni relations at IIT-Madras Professor R. Nagarajan said that the institute had embarked on a systematic programme of research collaboration with leading universities across the world.

“We envision a four-stage process, starting with faculty interaction, leading to research scholar exchanges and joint supervision of PhDs, culminating over time in joint doctorate programmes.”

Speaking ahead of the launch, vice-chancellor of the University of Melbourne Professor Clyn Davis said by enabling the students from India and Australia to undertake joint research, several global challenges and technological needs could be addressed.
