Madurai: An inspector of police has been provided with armed security following a threat to his life.

Police sources said Mohan serving as an inspector in Tallakulam police station in Madurai has been frequently receiving calls in the name of offenders whom he had fixed as accused in certain criminal cases.

During his tenure as inspector in the south gate police station in the city, Mohan, an officer said, investigated the parcel bomb case, wherein explosive materials was sent in a parcel to a small-scale gold manufacturing unit on South Krishnan Koil Street in April 2012, and arrested the accused.

He also cracked a few other sensitive cases including the desecration of a temple statue within the south gate limits and named the accused. Later, Mohan was shifted to Tallakulam station.

While he used to get threat calls, the intelligence wing had also cautioned him, which is why he has been provided with two armed men for his security, an officer said.

Only last month, AIADMK legislator A.K.Bose received a life threat allegedly by Al-Umma operatives after which police posted security at his house in Jeeva Nagar in Madurai.
