Weatherman predicts heavy rains
Low pressure build-up may intensify into cyclonic storm Helen.
Hyderabad: The Met office has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema regions from Friday night.
A depression has formed over Southwest and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal, about 630 km East-Southeast of Nellore. While the already existing system is bringing rains to South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema, Met officials predicted that another low pressure area is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm named “Helen”.
“A low pressure area is likely to emerge by November 17 over South Andaman Sea and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal from the Pacific Ocean which may intensify into the cyclonic storm, Helen.
South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema regions will receive further rains as a result of this,” informed M. Narasimha Rao, assistant meteorologist, Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad.
Even if the storm passes over North or South Tamil Nadu, the AP coast will be affected by it.
The existing depression will continue to move westwards and intensify into a “deep depression” and cross the North Tamil Nadu coast near Nagapattinam by November 16 evening. Telangana regions will not be affected much, said Met officials.

Hyderabad: Met officials said that the impact of the cyclonic storm can be measured if it intensified.
“The current system has to loosen its impact and move westwards, after which this low pressure area will move towards the southern parts of India and by November 18, the impact and the strength of the cyclonic storm can be predicted, if it intensifies. We are monitoring it continuously,” Met officials informed.

Hyderabad/Visakhapatnam: With winter setting in, temperatures in the city have fallen to 14ºCelsius.
The dry cold winds flowing from the land-locked areas in the North and the clear skies are resulting in the dip in temperatures leading to sudden chills.
Adilabad has recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 12ºC so far while Hyderabad has been experiencing lows of 14ºC for the last three days.

Hyderabad/Visakhapatnam: The minimum temperatures fell three to five degrees below normal in Telangana and about two to three degrees in Rayalaseema and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, said Met officials.
However the Northeast dry cold winds means that it feels much colder. “The temperatures in Hyderabad are expected to fall to 8-9ºC by the next two weeks. And the winter chills might increase depending on the speed of these dry cold winds.
For now, we have still not recorded or announced any cold wave warnings, but once the wind chill effective minimum temperature decreases to 10ºC or less, we will accordingly update,” said Narasimha Rao assistant meteorologist, Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad.
The lowest ever temperature recorded in Hyderabad was 6.1ºC in 1946. In 2012, the temperatures fell to 8.2ºC. However, the temperatures in Rayalaseema and Andhra are expected to rise because of the depression over the region. They will again dip as the system weakens. Telangana regions, however, will not be affected.
“We usually record the minimum temperatures just before sunrise. The season will extend up to the last week of January or first week of February. Usually, we consider 22ºC Celsius to be comfortable temperature, 15-20ºC as sustainable and anything less than 15ºC as chill,” said the Met official.
