Kanpur: An undertrial allegedly escaped from custody after offering liquor to a policeman who was escorting him to court, police said on Friday.
Sushil Srivastava, lodged under the Gangster Act, on Thursday offered liquor to policeman Virendra Singh. After the cop became inebriated, the accused fled, police said. Virendra was later found unconscious near an advocate’s chamber, it said.
Giving further details, the police said that instead of taking Sushil to the court, Virendra took him and another prisoner Kumar to another place, where they drank liquor. After Virendra and Kumar got inebriated, Sushil cut the ropes binding his hands and fled from the spot.
A case of negligence of duty has been lodged against the cop while Sushil has been booked for fleeing from custody.
