I find architect Sir Norman Foster’s designs highly inspirational, mainly because of the way he plays with light in architecture. Some of his remarkable designs are The Hearst Tower in New York and the spectacular 28-storeyed skyscraper called the Willis Building in London. In my products, one would find a deep connect with nature, as I try to incorporate elements like sunflowers, roses and lotus leaves in my pieces. One of my favourite pieces is a Lotus Dip wall installation made of copper and marble. It is called Fly Farm coffee table. It is one of the first pieces I designed and I love its simplicity and the 3D element of the butterfly.

Copper, brass and marble are the raw materials that I like to work with mainly because of their durability. These elements make me create intricate designs and structures that can light up a wall instantly and transform a dull corner into an attractive one.

My dream design project is to design a restaurant with crazily lit marble ceilings and comfy yet elegant chairs.

Design to me is bringing forth your creativity and concretising your ideas into a product that serves utility and spins a story around itself. Being true to my passion for designing, I established a graphic design and photographic studio in London and ran it for over 10 years. I moved to India five years ago to set up my design studio Exhibit D, that offers home accessories like mirrors, coffee tables and wall installations ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 4,00,000. In our recent festive collection, we have introduced a range of smaller products like candle stands, ceramics and leather accessories and several other customised products. - Gautam Dhawan, Designer of Avant-Garde stone and metal products.
