Anantapur: Anantapur MLA B. Gurunath Reddy on Saturday sought the cooperation of the people in improving sanitation in the city and in removing illegal constructions and encroachments.

Talking to the media after inspecting the streets at Kamalanagar in the city along with former deputy mayor Sreeramulu and health and sanitary officials, the MLA said that it is the responsibility of the people to cooperate with the officials in removing illegal constructions to improve sanitary conditions.

As part of inspection, the MLA visited Srikantha Circle, where a multi-storied building is being built after encroaching a drainage canal. He directed the officials to take steps against the owner of the building for flouting rules.

When the residents in the area brought to his notice people throwing garbage in open places due to lack of dust bins, the MLA directed officials to immediately place boxes.

He also asked the officials to issue a notice to shop owners who are using plastic carry bags to dispose off the waste on Raju Road. He asked officials to regularly clean drains to prevent overflow during the rainy season.
