Kochi: The Central Bureau of Investigation’s refusal to take over the probe into BJP leader K.T. Jayakrishnan Master’s murder has raised many eyebrows. Legal experts say the agency can initiate the probe to find out the larger conspiracy behind the murder.

Senior advocate S.Sreekumar who was a former CBI counsel claimed that the agency could take over the probe as the state had a strong case. “The state recently launched a re-investigation into the Anchery Baby murder case after CPM leader M.M.Mony had made a controversial speech. The Jayakrishnan Master murder case is also quite similar to that case”, he said.

He added that the Naxalite Varghese custodial death case had been an age old one. But the CBI had successfully investigated it and found that two former cops were the culprits.

“The agency can conduct a fresh probe, but they cannot charge the accused who were once convicted.” The law stipulated that a person who was convicted of a set of charges could not be tried on additional charges related to the crime, he added.

The state had decided to hand over the case after Kodi Suni, the prime accused in the T.P.Chandrasekharan murder case had come out with certain revelations in the Jayakrishnan Master murder case. T.K.Rejeesh, another accused in the case also claimed that he too had been a party to the murder of Jayakrishnan Master.

Rejeesh said that 16 assailants including him had hacked Jayakrishnan Master. Stating the names of those who were involved, he also said that Prabhulal, one of those involved was a co-accused in the Uttaman murder case of Mattannoor.
