Chennai: State police transferred an inspector and a DSP in Vellore after it was found that they had arrested the wrong suspects in connection with the murder of a BJP office-bearer Dr V. Aravind Reddy in October last year, sources said here.

It is now learnt that the murder was committed by Police Fakruddin and his associates who had been choosing their victims because of their proximity to Hindu outfits.
The murder case has already transferred to the special investigation division of the CB (CID) for re-investigation.

After the suspects, Police Fakruddin, Bilal Mallik and Pannai Ismail were arrested for the murders of Hindu Munnani office bearer S. Vellaiyappan in Vellore and BJP state general secretary ‘auditor’ Ramesh in Salem, they disclosed that they were involved in the murders of Dr Reddy and BJP councillor K. Murugan of Paramkudi as well.

The cases were transferred to SID. Sources said that a deputy superintendent of police and an inspector who went ahead with the arrest of a local gang of history sheeters due to heavy pressure from the top, had been transferred for making the wrong arrests.

Till Fakruddin confessed, state police had been maintaining that the murders of Reddy and Murugan had nothing to do with the organisations they were representing.
