‘Alien values’ worrying CPM
Three years have passed since the CPM central committee brought out its rectification document.
Thiruvananthapuram: Three years have passed since the CPM central committee brought out its rectification document, but the state unit of the party is still grappling with the ‘alien values’ and ‘bourgeoisie tendencies’ among its cadre.
The confession has been made in the draft organisation report finalised by the state secretariat for the special plenum to be held in Palakkad later this month. The leadership has pointed out that the degeneration in sections of cadre at different levels has to be curbed immediately if the party has to march ahead in the state.
It also refers to the weakening of links with the masses and erosion in the working class outlook. The state conference held here last year had also expressed concern over the “go slow” approach of the leadership on the implementation of the rectification document.
Party sources say there has been no serious attempt to scrutinise the success and failure of the rectification campaign which was aimed at weeding out bourgeoisie tendencies among party workers and leaders.
But ahead of the plenum, the party leadership can feel relieved about the near end of factionalism within the state unit. The central committee had earlier identified Parliament- arism and struggle to capture party committees as the root cause of factionalism in Kerala which had also triggered various organisational problems.
While factionalism may have come to an end, party sources say ‘bureaucratic’ behaviour and intolerance to criticism which adversely affected in-house democracy, were still prevalent at various levels.
