Vijayawada: HoD (Architecture) Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology University P.V.K. Rameshwar on Wednesday stressed the need for considering riverfronts while developing urban areas.
Addressing students of architecture at a workshop ‘City through its riverfronts’ organised by School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada, Rameshwar said that natural resources and rivers played a key role in forming human colonies and civilisation. “Riverfronts play a key role in urban development and the people need to keep them protected,” he said.
Principal director,?Intach Architecture Heritage division D. Gupta said that one should not neglect history and culture of riverfronts while developing them but be a part of urban design. “Rivers should not be turned into dumping yards,” Gupta said.
Prof. John Jackson of RMT University, Melbourne, gave insights on riverfront projects to the students at the workshop.
