Thiruvananthapuram: For Lekshmi of GHSS Thonnekkal, it was indeed a tiring day. Using plastic bottles, egg shells, palm leaves and enamel paint, she came out with 17 items made out of reusable material.
She was participating at the revenue district Shastramela here at the Cotton Hill School, Vazhuthakad, on Tuesday. It was not any different for Vijeesh, a class eight student of St John’s HSS, Karakonam. He prepared about 350 agarbathis (incense sticks) for the competition.
The two-day revenue district educational fair, featuring science, IT, social sciences, mathematics and work experience, was inaugurated by V. Sivankutty, MLA, on Tuesday. Mayor K.Chandrika, K.M. Somasudha DDE, and Mary Sislet Princella, Principal of Cotton Hill Government HSS for Girls, were also present at the inaugural function.
Over 6,500 students from 12 sub-districts participated in the fair. Eleven sub-districts participated in the science drama competition under the theme ‘Science and Society.’ The dramas provided insights into the importance of science in society and how society was closely related to the environment. Items made out of wood, clay models, objects from waste material and fabric paintings were on display.
The Mathematics and Science Exhibition which was held on Wednesday attracted a lot of people. Working models of power-saving vehicles made by Vivek C.R. and Sreeganga B.S. of New Higher Secondary School, Nellimoodu, won a great deal of applause.
