Hyderabad: Niloufer hospital superintendent Dr Subramanyam has been replaced by Dr Devaraju as it was found that the latter was senior to the former.

Dr Subramanyam was handed over charge by former superintendent Dr D. Ranganath. But the Telangana Government Doctors’ Association opposed the appointment, and asked the director of health and medical education to check the records and appoint the seniormost doctor.

Director Dr Santa Rao said, “On checking the records, we found that Dr Devaraju is senior, and hence decided to appoint him. It is merely an in-charge position and not a promotion post.”

But doctors who belong to the Andhra region are looking at this suspiciously. A senior doctor said, “The discrimination has already begun, and this is not the way in which the government should handle sensitive issues.

If it is an in-charge post then why was the replacement done. Former superintendent Dr D. Ranganath was junior to most senior professors but he continued in the post. How can they create such differences among doctors?”
