Chennai: Puthiya Tamilagam president Dr K. Krishnasamy on Thursday urged the state government to reject Justice Sampath Commission report which justified the police firing at Paramakudi last year in which seven dalits were killed.

The commission report, which was tabled in the state Assembly on October 30, had concluded that police action was in self defence as contemplated under section 96 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
“It is totally unacceptable. We want the state government to reject the commission’s report,” he said, adding that his party would stage a demonstration to seek attention of the state government on September 30 in the city and appealed to other like-minded parties to join the protest.

The commission held the detention of Adi Dravida Leader John Pandian, who was scheduled to visit the memorial of Dalit leader Immanuvel Sekaran, sparked agitations. It recommended creation of more rural jobs to ensure that the rural folks are gainfully employed.
