Mysore: An ugly spat between Hunsur MLA H.P. Manjunath and Mysore Deputy Commissioner C. Shikha on Friday at a public grievance meeting in the DC’s office, chaired by food and civil supplies minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, gave an unsavoury twist to the proceedings.
Days after Narasimharaja MLA Tanveer Sait expressed disappointment over Shikha’s style of functioning, the Hunsur MLA went a step further accusing the deputy commissioner of being inaccessible and indifferent to elected representatives. The sudden outburst of Manjunath left Shikha embarassed.
“We elected representatives have least respect and people don’t need us. The DC single-handedly is capable of resolving people’s grievances through her phone-in programmes. None of the people’s problems reported by elected representatives are considered by her. When this happens, what respect will voters in my constituency have for me? The DC does not respond to phone calls nor is she available in the office”, he charged.
Responding to this, Shikha requested the MLA to explain his problems but Manjunath was unrelenting and continued to question the DC’s style of functioning. Even attempts by Gundu Rao to placate the MLA did not succeed.
