Tollywood actor  Sumanth’s latest film, 'Emo Gurram Egaravachu', has an interesting Southeast Asian connection. The film’s female lead Pinky Savika is a star in Bangkok.

“I bought the rights of the Telugu film 'Eega' to dub into Thai. For this I had visited Thailand. At that time I was looking for a female lead for my film with Sumanth and I saw a picture of a girl on a magazine cover who looked like an Indian,” says Chandra Siddharth, director of the film.

When he enquired about her, he was told that the actor in the picture was Pinky, a big star in Thailand and a household name there. “She had acted as a child artiste too,” he adds. Siddharth got help of his friends in Bangkok and contacted Pinky for his film.

“She was excited to act in a Telugu film,” adds the director.

In recent years, many Telugu films have been shot in Bangkok and interestingly Puri Jagannath is quite popular there as many of his films are shot there.

And when Chandra Siddharth decided to sign Pinky as the female lead, he got a bonus from the Thai government. “She is involved with Thailand tourism, so the local Tourism department came forward and gave permission for the shooting without any cost and we shot at places that have never been seen in any film,” says Chandra Siddharth.

The film’s audio function is planned for the first week of December and the Thai Tourism minister with other officials have agreed to attend. “Once the date finalized, I am going to invite the Thai princess also. She may come for the audio function,” adds Siddharth.

Thanks to Pinky’s popularity in Thailand, the Telugu film’s rights for the country have already been bought by a local there. Thus, it might be the first Telugu film to release in Thailand. “We dubbed Eega into Thai but have not released it yet. They wanted to do a big event there and then plan the release,” adds Chandra Siddharth.

What about Indian Tourism department? “We will also invite Chiranjeevi, the Tourism minister. They will also get an official letter from the Thai government when they visit here,” he concludes.
