Traffic warden petitions IG
The woman traffic warden, who was allegedly attacked by a man in public, lodged a complaint.
Kochi: The woman traffic warden, who was allegedly attacked by a man in public, lodged a complaint before the Ernakulam range inspector general K. Padmakumar.
The move comes in the backdrop of the director general of police K.S. Balasubramaniam's assurance that necessary action will be taken against the officers if the victim filed a complaint before the higher authorities. In her complaint to the IG, the victim Padmini has alleged that the investigating officers attempted to sabotage the probe.
"Instead of taking my statements, the cops were trying to torture me mentally. The police also delayed the arrest of the accused. They also recorded my statement wrongly. Necessary action should be taken against the investigating officers," Padmini said in her complaint to the IG.
The allegations are against the Ernakulam assistant commissioner Suneesh Babu, North Police circle inspector M.G. Sabu, sub inspector Mohammed Nizar and two traffic personnel. The victim has also requested for leave from service for 30 days in the background of the ongoing probe.
The incident occurred on November 2, when one Vinosh Varghese allegedly manhandled the traffic warden and verbally abused her at Kathrikadavu junction in Kochi. The victim's allegation is that the police was trying to save the accused as he was a member of the district Congress committee.
