Huge turnout for Oommen Chandy mass contact in Kottayam

Kottayam: The mass contact programme is the beginning of a great movement to sensitise and renew our administrative system for the benefit of the people,  Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said here on Monday.

Inaugurating the  mass contact programme at the Nehru Stadium,  he said it gave fresh ideas to revamp our system.

From the experience of the last programme conducted two years back, the government had amended 45 rules enabling the officials to take  steps to help the poor,  he said.

Finance Minister  K.M. Mani, Union Minister of State for Labour Kodikkunnil Suresh, Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Rural Development Minister K.C. Joseph, Chief Whip P.C. George and Collector Ajith Kumar were among those present on the occasion. 

Thousands of people lined up to meet the Chief Minister who allotted Rs 1. 43 crore in 744 cases till 7 p.m.  Out of this,  Rs 1. 5 crore was sanctioned  for 552 applications from the CM’s distress relief fund.
