Hyderabad: Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana on Monday said the state division could have been halted had all the Congress elected representatives from Seemandhra region quit their posts.

In an informal chat with media persons,  the PCC chief said he  had suggested right at the beginning that   the MLAs, ministers and MPs should tender their resignation. “No one cared about my suggestion as everyone loves  power,”?he said.

The PCC chief added that no leader, however big he might be, is indispensable and can leave the Congress without waiting for the Reorganisation Bill to be referred to the state Assembly.

He said the party has been identifying people who intended to quit and would take suo motto action against them. “People are making light of the party because of these leaders’ open criticism against the Central leadership on the contentious state division and we can  spare them no longer,”?he said.

Satyanarayana’s remarks gains significance against the backdrop of rumours that the Chief Minister would step down once the division appeared imminent and may even float a new party.

He said no party or leader is sincere in the fight for united state. “Anyone who does not like party’s stand can quit right now,”?he said, adding that he, like any other elected representative from Seemandhra, would like the state to remain united.

The PCC chief said the Bill is likely to be referred to the Assembly in the first week of December and clarity on this would emerge only after the Union cabinet meeting on November 28.
