Chennai: DMDK founder and leader of Opposition Vijayakanth on Wednesday opposed the move to shift actor Sivaji Ganesan’s statue on Kamaraj Salai-Dr Radhakrishnan Salai junction citing hindrance to traffic.

“When there are many statues on the Marina beach road stretch why Sivaji statue alone being picked out for hindering traffic?” he questioned.

Vijayakanth was responding to a query on Chennai city police’s affidavit filed before Madras High court stating that the statue of thespian Sivaji Ganesan at the Kamarajar Salai-Radhakrishnan Salai junction obstructed the visibility of motorists.

When asked about the chief minister Jayalalithaa blaming the Centre for the present power crisis in the state, DMDK leader said that it is not right to blame the Union government for power cuts

“Instead of blaming the Centre, the government should take steps to end power crisis in the state,” he told reporters at Chennai airport before leaving for New Delhi to campaign in support of his party candidates contesting the assembly polls in the national capital. He said that his party has a good chance of winning seats in the assembly elections in New Delhi.

DMDK has nominated 11 candidates for the polls in Delhi.
