Bangalore: The city police have filed cases against banks, which failed to implement the earlier order issued by the city police commissioner related to implementing security measures at ATMs. Cases have been booked under section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the IPC.
However, following requests by banks seeking more time to install CCTVs and burglar alarm at ATM kiosks, the city police commissioner has extended the deadline by 45 days. However, security guards have been made mandatory at all ATM kiosks.
On Tuesday, the State Level Bankers’ Committee had written to the police chief that all banks would deploy guards round the clock at all ATM kiosks. But they had requested the commissioner to extend the deadline for installation of CCTVs and burglar alarms, as they need time to procure them through a tender process.
They had also cited that it requires time as it involves ensuring technical specifications of CCTVs and alarms before floating tenders. Considering their request, the commissioner has extended the deadline.
The bankers’ committee had also requested the commissioner to exclude deployment of security guards for ATMs installed at public places, religious places, educational institutes, malls, clubs and commercial complexes.
