Bengaluru: What seemed like a tepid contest a few weeks ago has turned into a fierce battle, with former stalwarts from the state, including Rahul Dravid and G.R.Viswanath, backing Sadanand Maiya and A.V.Jayaprakash for top posts.

Cricket, like most sport, is unpredictable. A wicket, a boundary or a maiden over can change a team's fortunes. Off the pitch, too, politics in cricket is a battle fought by men who have their pride, ego and reputation at stake.

All this will come to the fore at the Karnataka State Cricket Association elections on Sunday .

What seemed like a tepid contest a few weeks ago has turned into a fierce battle, with former stalwarts from the state, including Rahul Dravid and G.R. Viswanath, backing Sadanand Maiya and A.V.
Jayaprakash for the post of president and secretary, respectively. They are pitted against Srikantadatta Wadiyar and Brijesh Patel. By Sunday evening, the KSCA will have a new team in place as the three-year tenure of the team led by Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath comes to an end.

While 1,832 votes will decide the fate of the candidates, what is really at stake is the future of cricket in the state.
