Superstitious Shah takes centre stage

Chennai: Jaydev Shah, son of former BCCI vice-president Niranjan Shah, scored his sixth first-class century against Tamil Nadu on Saturday and the skipper also caught attention with his quirky rituals.

A superstitious Shah made sure that he crossed over to touch the crease with the bat every time a boundary was scored and he also did the same for Pujara's productivity.

Shah admitted that he believed it helped continue the good luck after being dropped by M. Vijay on eight.

When he was on 99, Shah surprised everyone as he ran towards long-on to change his bat and ensured that the 100th run was scored using a willow with a different sponsor sticker before switching to the previous one immediately after the milestone.

Shah said he was contracted to Nike and wanted to make sure that it got the attention while he celebrated.

“The bat I used with MRF sticker was my teammate Sheldon Jackson's. I scored a century with that in my previous innings against Bengal, so I kept it with me,“ a smiling Shah explained indicating that his belief in superstion will continue.
