2 IIT-M students get Rs 1.31cr/year offer from US MNC

Chennai: An American multinational computer technology corporation has offered $210,000 (approximately Rs 1.31crore) per annum as salary to two B.Tech (final year-computer science engineering) students at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) this year.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle on Sunday, Lt.Col. Jayakumar, deputy registrar (students, training and placement) says that last year a South Korean multinational consumer electronics giant offered USD 1.5 lakh (approximately Rs 93.60 lakhs ) per annum as salary and this year an American multinational company had offered an highest salary of USD 2.1 lakhs (Approximately Rs 1.31 crore) per year.
Highest salary offered by Indian companies too had gone up from last year's Rs 28.82 lakh per year to Rs 48.68 lakhs per annum.
About 100 students got placed in 25 multi-national companies on day one of this year's placement season, which began Sunday. Last year 22 companies recruited 95 students on day one. As many as 1,366 students had registered for placement this year whereas it was 1282 last year.
Oswald Lobo, research affairs secretary and a student who coordinates placement at IIT-M said that some companies like Facebook did not take part in placement this year however a couple of multi-national giants including Oracle had accepted to visit the institute for recruitment.
"We have given two extra night slots this year to accommodate more students and companies this year. We don't see any recession this year and the companies too are positive to recruit more students from IIT-M this year," he said.
