Cancer centre soon, says V.S. Sivakumar

A decision to be taken after convening a high-level meeting in the presence of CM.

Kochi: Health Minister V S Sivakumar on Sunday said that a cancer research centre cum hospital will be established in Kochi soon. He was delivering the keynote address at Medipress-2013, the medical camp organised by Ernakulam Press Club.

"The demand to set up a cancer centre in Kochi has been a long-standing one and I have received the report of the RCC?director in this regard. A decision will be taken after convening a high-level meeting to discuss it in the presence of the Chief Minister," the minister said.

The minister also said that he has discussed the issue with the GCDA chairman, Kochi Mayor and the DMO.

Sivakumar also inaugurated AIDS Day on Sunday by pinning the red ribbon on child Akshara and KUWJ president K Premnath.

Union Minister and local MP Prof K V Thomas who inaugurated the medical camp said that Kerala's health model is now being followed by other states.

Doctors in different specialties from 30 hospitals in the city examined 6000 persons at the camp. The camp was supported by GCDA, IMA, NRHM and local bodies.
