Tirupati: Two local policemen- a constable and a home guard were found dead in Gopal Puram forest on Monday, about 100 km from here.

Acting on a tip-off from cattle-grazers, a police team went to the spot in the forest at Palamneru mandal with district officials and discovered the bodies with multiple injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Jawaharlal Naik (23) and Deva (21), attached to Palamneru police station, police said.

The duo had ventured into the forest last night to ascertain the veracity of a call to the police station that a brothel was being run in the forest, they said, adding no arrests have been made so far.

Investigation was started from various angles, including previous personal enmity and the possible involvement of red sandalwood smugglers, police said.
