Chennai: Helped by footage of CCTV cameras of shops in Anna Nagar, the police has arrested six men for robbing a 50-year-old man of Rs 10 lakh in the area in broad daylight  last week.

Selvam, an employee of SDB Security Services, was  riding his two-wheeler on 11th main road  at around 12 45 pm  with collections from shopkeepers in Aminjikarai, when a gang intercepted him and grabbed the satchel with the cash.

As his firm served various shops in the area, taking their daily collections and depositing them in a bank , Selvam was carrying Rs 10 lakh on him at the time.

Fortunately , the incident was caught on the CCTV cameras of nearby shops,  and this made it easy for the police to identify the men involved.  The gang leader was found to be Vijayakanth of Tondiarpet, a former employee with the agency and his confession led to other arrests, according to the police.

Over Rs  5 lakh in cash has been recovered and the vehicles used for the job seized.
