Vinodhini grabs major roles now
Vinodhini seems to be grabbing prominent character roles
Vinodhini, who was last seen in Mani Ratnam’s 'Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam', seems to be grabbing prominent character roles in major directors’ films in K’town, her next flick being 'Thalaimuraigal', with legendary director Balu Mahendra, who is directing and acting in the film. Notably, this is Balu Mahendra’s first film, where he will be seen on screen. Vinodhini is happy to be playing the role of Balu Mahendra’s daughter in the film. “'Thalaimuraigal' is an emotional family drama that revolves around the relationship between a grandson and grandfather. The film is set against a rural backdrop, and my role is that of an innocent girl, who is emotionally attached to the family,” she says.
When asked about her experience of working with the director, she says she was most fortunate. “He doesn’t believe in roping in trained artists; instead, he looks for spontaneous performances. He makes us feel the character. Also, Balu sir asked me to walk on to the sets, even off-cam, like a pregnant woman, as it’s required for the character.” Mani Ratnam initially saw her performance in her first film, 'Engeyum Eppodhum', and cast her for Kadal. Balu did not notice her in both these films, but spotted her in a play and called her for 'Thalaimuraigal'. “Yes, I am performing in 'Koothu-P-Pattarai',” Vinodhini says. “I used to do many plays, and I still do.” Her upcoming projects are 'Jilla', and 'Jigarthanda' where she essays an important roles.
