11 MLAs to visit Surat for Narendra Modi lessons

An 11-member subjects committee team of the Kerala Assembly will visit Surat in Gujarat on December 12.

Thiruvananthapuram: An 11-member subjects committee team of the Kerala  Assembly will visit Surat in Gujarat on December 12 to study the corporation’s urban development initiatives and solid waste management schemes.

This despite the opposition both the fronts in Kerala  maintain  towards Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s development schemes. The members  belong  to Congress, CPM, Muslim League, KC (M) and CPI.

Culture Minister K. C. Joseph, Finance Minister K. M. Mani, Urban Affairs Minister Manjalamkuzhi Ali and Panchayat and Social Justice Minister Dr. M. K. Muneer will lead the team.  According to government sources,  they will also study  solid waste management initiatives in Chennai and Mumbai.

Joseph said he will  join  the team just for a day in Surat after going to Mumbai. Ali is yet to decide  whether to go  or not when the capital city has been facing problems of solid waste management over the last two years.

The committee is also expected to study  sewage  management which has been implemented by the Surat municipal corporation after the outbreak of plague in 1994.
