100% hike in water tariff for firms

HyderabadThe state government has approved a 100 per cent hike in water tariff for the industries and the commercial category consumers. The tariff revision will earn the Water Board an additional Rs 300 crore per annum. Domestic consumers have been spared. The tariff was last revised in December 2011 for all consumer categories.
 
The Board meeting, chaired by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, on Wednesday approved the tariff hike proposals submitted by the Water Board that stated that the frequent hike in electricity tariff has increased the power bill of the Water Board from Rs 35 crore to Rs 55 crore in just over a year.
 
Agriculture subsidy of  Rs 7K cr for free power to be provided
 
Hyderabad: The four state Discoms together have estimated an Annual Revenue Requirement of Rs 52,753 crore of which they will be able to come up with only Rs 36,345 crore, leaving a deficit of over Rs 16,409 crore. 
 
Also, the ARR proposal for next year has indicated the need for power purchase from the open market due to expected energy deficits. 
 
Moreover, the state government has agreed for an agricultural subsidy of Rs 7,084 crore for the “free power” to be provided during the period. That apart, an increase in customer charges from Rs 5 to Rs 20 has been proposed.
