Chennai: While the weathermen were busy watching the movement of the well-marked low pressure in the south bay for the last two days, the late sea breeze clubbed with the easterly flow of air led to strong winds late in the afternoon in the city on Wednesday. A senior official at the Regional Meteorological Centre said that winds have strengthened due to a small temperature rise in the afternoon.
On the current system brewing in the south bay, the Met official said that it was being monitored. “The system is around 900 km off Chennai. Only when it starts moving northwards or northwestwards will we receive rains. If the system move towards the northeast, then it could dissipate over Andaman and Nicobar,” he added. However he said that the city would continue to receive scattered rains for a few more days.
