Rajahmundry: Even as the Congress-led UPA government is making brisk moves to carve out a separate state to set up Telangana by bifurcating the Andhra Pradesh, Seemandhra lawyers take up e-mail campaign by sending them to the President, Prime Minister, Cabinet ministers, MPs and leaders of both national and regional political parties to mobilise their support with a demand to maintain the status quo given the increasing unrest among the people from all the three regi-ons including coastal Andhra, Telangana and Rayalaseema.
The lawyers have sent an e-mail consisting of 18 pages to nearly 600 e-mail IDs here on Thursday explaining about a series of issues ranging from the establishment of the state of Andhra in 1953 to separate Telangana agitation in 1969 and separate Andhra movement in 1972 and the statements of late PMs Indira Gan-dhi and P.V. Narasimha Rao and Indian constitution maker Dr B.R. Ambedkar at various fora underlining the importance of the state to remain united.
The lawyers suggested several options with the main one being the state to be united while others include to bifurcate the state with Telangana comprising 10 districts and the residuary AP while Hyderabad to be made Union Territory. They suggested to make Rayala Telangana with Hyderabad as its capital as a third option.
Referring to the Telan-gana leaders statements Telangana Jago Aur Andhrawala Bhago, Hyderabad Sirf Hamara and others, the lawyers mentioned in their e-mail that security of the people from Seemand-hra regions would be at stake in Telangana region. Students from Seemandhra region might face a tough task to pursue higher education and find employment in Hyderabad.
They explained about how the Centre kept the Sri Krishna Committee report on the proposed bifurcation of the state in cold storage and decl-ared the Antony Comm-ittee report as an eye wash. They were also critical about the interpretation of the Articles 371 D and E and also Art-icle 3 of the Indian Con-stitution by the Centre.
Seemandhra lawyers JAC co-convenor Muppala Subba Rao said, “We have sent the e-mail explaining about in detail about the whole issue on Telangana to the President and mainly to the leaders of several political parties to enable them understand the complexities involved in the issue and debate on the floor of both the houses of Parliament to safeguard our interests.”
