MOP, Loyola emerge champions
Chennai: Loyola College men and MOP Vaishnav women continued their dominance in the athletic community as they lifted the overall championship in the final day of the A.L.
Mudaliar inter-college athletic meet at the Nehru Stadium on Thursday . It happened to be Loyola's 12th consecutive title at the meet while MOP Vaishnav bagged the championship for the 10th time in succession.
G. Gayathry (MOP Vaishnav), who won the individual championship in the women's category with 1007 points, scorched her way in the final leg of the 4X100m relay (48.9s) to clinch gold medal followed by Ethiraj (50.9s).
However, the run from the Madras Christian ( College quartet -1 P a r t h i b a n , ( Silambarasan, Balayya and Thiyagarajan (42.2s) 1 -in the 4x100m men's relay took centre stage in front of a vociferous ( crowd. The final dash by Thiyagarajan pipped his 1 challenger from Loyola as MCC bagged gold.
Loyola, for a change, had to be content with a silver medal. ( A. A. Vijay Kumar, an 1 elated physical director of Loyola College, was ( keen on pushing his I young wards to achieve greater success in the t years to come. “It's is a fresh group. There is a lot of talent and the management has given tremendous support to these youngsters. Had it not ( been for the injury to Augustin Yesudas (who won gold in the 100m race at junior nationals in Kochi), we would have done better in the relay events as well,“ he added.

Rich haul for TN athletes S. Samyuktha of Tamil Nadu claimed gold in the U-14 girls long jump at the 29th national junior athletics championship being held in Bengaluru on Thursday . Samyuktha cleared a distance of 5.32m. In shot put J.Elakeya secured bronze for her creditable third place finish. Mahashri Baloda and Kavita Goswami (both from Delhi) ended up winning the gold and silver respectively. In the U-18 girls long jump TN girls G. Karthika and V . Akshaya Sonasri did their state proud by bagging the gold. and bronze. In the boys U-16 long jump M. Jeeva claimed a bronze.
