Bangalore: It is almost 20 days. But the police have still found nothing that could lead to the arrest of the ATM assailant. Is this because the police was excessively depending on technology to catch the culprits?

Since Jyothi Uday, the manager of Corporation Bank’s Mission Road branch was attacked inside an ATM kiosk on November 19, nearly 400 policemen of both Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh are on the look out for the man who attacked and robbed her. In spite of all these efforts, police are yet to get any leads about the attacker.

A senior police officer said that the attacker is probably has not been booked in any cases earlier. “His finger prints did not match with any of those we have in the data base. It makes us suspect that the attacker had not committed any offence that was reported to police earlier,” the officer said.

“If he were to be an old offender, definitely we would have got some clues about him. As there is no information about him, it has made our job very difficult,” the officer admitted.

Further the officer said that the offender not using mobile phone is another deterrent in the investigation. “In the recent times, we have solved most of the cases and nabbed the accused by tracking their mobile phone signals. But in this case, we do not know who the offender is. So, we do not have his mobile phone number as well.

“Though we tried to track the number by getting a list of phones used at the spot when the time the incident took place, we are not successful in zeroing in on any specific number. For that matter, we are not sure whether the attacker was using a phone. This is another setback in tracking the accused,” the officer said.

So far, the police teams have gone to several places and questioned several suspects. A city police team had also camped in Andhra Pradesh in search of the attacker. But none of these have yielded expected results. However, the police top brass are confident that they will catch the culprit soon.
