New Delhi: The results of the megapolitical contest took not only the aam aadmi by surprise, but the political cadre as well, the impact of which was clearly seen in their media address.

The outgoing chief minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit, snubbed reporters whereas Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal, with his usual frankness, thanked the volunteer bandwagon of his party.

BJP chief ministerial can didate Harsh Vardhan maintained his calm demeanour.

In a brief appearance, Dikshit addressed the media immediately after resigning. Her one-line acceptance of defeat summed up the entire mood of the conference. “We accept our defeat and we will analyse what went wrong,” said the 75-year-old Congress leader.

It was clear that Dikshit was finding it difficult to deal with the party’s poor performance in the national capital.

When asked if she had failed to feel the pulse of the voters in Delhi, she slammed the media, saying, “Hum bewakoof hai na (we are fools, right?),” and stormed out.

On the other hand, Kejriwal, thrilled with the party’s performance, started his address with a loud cheer of 'Jai Hind'. Amidst hundreds of volunteers trying to catch a glimpse of the game-changer, Kejriwal humbly thanked the people of Delhi for their trust and support.

“We have taken a step towards clean and honest politics. I thank voters for their tremendous support,” he said.

Reminiscing about the journey and struggle of the volunteers, Kejriwal said, “I promise that the candidates who have won will work towards the betterment of their specific areas.

We have been given an opportunity and we will make sure we prove our mettle.” He applauded the efforts of the young candidates who have been elected: “Our party is made up of aam janta. Many young students have come out with flying colours, defeating seasoned politicians.” On the future course of action of the AAP, he said.

“We have made our presence felt. Now we will act as a strong Opposition and continue our fight against corruption.” The ever-polite Dr Harsh Vardhan thanked the voters and congratulated the Aam Aadmi Party.

“I congratulate Kejriwal on the good show of his party against expectations. I will also offer my thanks to Dikshit for serving Delhi for 15 years.”
