Hyderabad: With the formation process of the Telangana state coming to its final legs, both Telangana and Seemandhra MPs are approaching the main opposition party in the Lok Sabha, the BJP, for support.

While Seemandhra MPs are trying to garner the support of BJP to stall the bifurcation, the Telangana MPs, who are afraid that the process will lose steam following the Congress’ humiliating defeat in Assembly polls in four states, are hoping that the BJP will see the Telangana Bill through in Parliament.

Seemandhra MPs of the Congress, TD and YSRC moved a No Confidence Motion against the UPA government on Monday. However, for the Motion to be taken up in the House, it needs the support of at least 10 per cent, or 55, members.

The Seemandhra MPs are thus trying to get the BJP’s support to muster the required numbers. According to sources, some MPs from the Congress and TD are planning to approach the BJP leadership through a state BJP leader and are confident of getting the party’s support. They are approaching other parties too.

Meanwhile Telangana MPs are hoping that the BJP will not support the No Confidence Motion. A Telangana Congress MLC said, “General elections are coming in the next three or four months anyway. If BJP supports the No Confidence Motion against the UPA government now, people might think that the party is power hungry, so it will not support the motion”.

State BJP chief, G. Kishan Reddy, meanwhile told DC that when the Congress MPs were moving a No Confidence Motion against their own government, why should the BJP support the same?
