Only clean candidates: Parameshwar

Bangalore: After the Congress party's dismal performance in four states, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, Dr G. Parameshwar on Monday asserted that the party will field candidates with a clean image in the forthcoming General Elections.

Speaking to reporters here, Dr Parameshwar said, "The results of four states has given a loud and clear message to all of us (Parties), that people  want candidates with a clean image. Congress party had already made up its mind and in 2014, this norm will be  implemented strictly."

According to him, the KPCC is determined to win all 28  Parliamentary seats and will take every possible step to keep the tainted out of the electoral arena.

"AICC general secretary, Digvijay Singh, will be arriving on Dec. 14, and will be  chairing the KPCC election committee meeting and Party's co-ordination  meeting too," the KPCC president  disclosed.

He added that the Co-ordination committee meeting would discuss issues pertaining to Ministers' performance, improving co-ordination  between both party and government, besides other important topics  such as Governor, H.R. Bhardwaj taking a critical view of the performance of  some ministers.

"Even though, there is no direct conflict  between Raj Bhavan, the party and government, we need to take  the Governor's  views seriously. Therefore, we will be discussing these issues," he clarified.

Dr Parameshwar also said that the KPCC's election committee will assess the performance of incumbent Lok Sabha members, besides reviewing reports submitted by various district units on possible candidates for the next General elections.

"We will launch a series of  programmes ahead of the Lok Sabha elections which will help us organise the party  better," he said in response to a question.
