Hyderabad: A PhD graduate in the chemistry department of Osmania University has alleged that the university’s vice-chancellor along with her research guide were sexually harassing her. She did not register a police complaint.
OU vice-chancellor T. Satyanarayanan has alleged that the graduate was harassing him for a job and unable to bear the torture, he filed a complaint with the OU police, following which the woman was arrested on October 26, 2013.
During a talk on National Human Rights Day she spoke publicly: “The OU VC asked me to sexually satisfy him several times in order to grant me a doctorate. He called me several times to his office and tried to make physical advances. If one checks the caller list on the mobile, his intention will be clear.”
When contacted, the vice-chancellor, T. Satyanarayan, said: “She has made the same allegations against her guide and was proved wrong. I have produced all the communication from her to the police.”
The OU?police corroborated the VC’s version of what happened. barged into my office and demanded a job. She has sent me close to 100 messages in vulgar language and told me that I will die soon.
I have received more than 1,000 calls; so much so, I had to switch off my mobile for a week. I cannot explain what she has mailed me. She keeps calling me from various numbers. One can also check with the student union groups about her aggressive behaviour.
I have produced all the mails, messages, calls in front of the police as well. I filed a complaint with the OU police in October and produced all the evidences and even deposited my phone with the court."
The woman was arrested on October 26 on the VC's complaint and sent to judicial remand. P. Ashok, OU police inspector, said, "An inquiry committee was set up to inquire about the graduate and after the investigation it was found that the woman made false allegations.
All the mails, calls and messages received by the VC were sent by her. Witness statements from the VC's office, professors in the chemistry department and the OU teacher's association were taken into account and the graduate was arrested."
