NCW: Dad’s letter in snoopgate fake
Gujarat women commission rapped for not producing appropriate documents.
New Delhi: The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Wednesday disclosed that the letter written by the “father” of the girl demanding closure of the case was not authentic.
The NCW also pointed fingers at the Gujarat Women’s Commission for not sending them appropriate documents, as demanded by them. The NCW member said the state commission seems to be under pressure from the state government.
NCW member Nirmala Samant Prabhavalkar told this newspaper, “the address from where the earlier letter of a ‘so-called’ father came was different from the documents that we have received now. We were doubtful about the letter and these documents have proved that we were correct.”
The NCW has decided to pursue the case even as it said the state commission is insisting on closing the case. “They told us that the father of the girl, the girl and her husband visited the state commission and insisted on closing the case and also told that the girl was in the know of the development.”
According to the NCW member, the state women’s commission has not followed their directions. “The girl was never produced before the NCW as asked. The role of Gujarat Women’s Commission is under scrutiny too. We will take it up at a higher level if we do not get cooperation from the women’s panel,” added Ms Prabhavalkar.
The NCW proposes to write to the chief secretary of Gujarat again and may visit the girl to get to the bottom of the case.
