Kochi: Artists of all disciplines from across the globe will live, work and collaborate at the Pepper House Residency as part of Kochi– Muziris Biennale 2014.
The international residency set up at the historical Pepper House was a major venue of the first edition of biennale.
Initially, three artists, Avantika Bawa from the US, Anja Bohnof from Germany and Leon K.L. of India have been invited to stay at the residency.
The Kochi Biennale Foundation will formally announce the dates of biennale 2014 on Thursday along with the opening of Pepper House Residency.
Jitish Kallat, curator and art director of biennale 2014, will formally inaugurate the function when artist Namboothiri will announce the dates.
The residency aims at creating dialogues between artists, local residents and institutions to establish a relationship in the local community. It will also serve as a platform to explore their creative potential.
The foundation will also set up a library at Pepper House with free entry for the public.
It will be a laboratory of visual arts containing books, DVDs and CDs covering the visual arts’ practices and performance, cinema, design, fashion, cultural studies, architecture and philosophy.
The venue will also have a Pepper House cafe which will be a convergence point for the artists’ community.
Artists will be able to do research and production and conduct dialogue through the library, studio and cafe.
First edition of Kochi biennale digitised
Kochi: Thanks to Google Art Project, the people can now make a virtual revisit to the venues of Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2012 to experience the artworks up-close.
In a unique initiative, the Kochi Biennale Foundation and Google Art Project, with support from Google India, have archived the artworks showcased as part of its previous edition in 2012.
With this, it becomes the first biennale to be digitised by Google Art Project, which has till date only collaborated with museums and other permanent exhibitions.
The step enables the people to view high resolution images from all the 14 venues of the event.
According to Bose Krishnamachari, Director of KMB and the co-curator of the event, this is a historic achievement, which would enable the people to experience the biennale exactly as it happened in 2012.
