Thiruvananthapuram: Despite the drubbing received by the Congress in the recent elections, chief minister Oommen Chandy is confident of a UDF victory in the Lok Sabha elections on the strength of its welfare programmes and big ticket infrastructure projects.

Reacting to questions on the Congress defeat in the Assembly polls, Chandy said there was significant progress in major infrastructure projects like Kochi Metro, Vizhinjam harbour, Smart City, LNG Terminal and Kannur airport.

Besides, the government was also implementing a series of welfare measures for the common man, he added.

He, however, admitted that the government’s policies were not being propagated adequately among the people. He even blamed the media for this saying that it was giving too much importance to controversies.

“I am not accusing the media of any conspiracy against us. You would not have spared the CPM had it been in our position,’’ he added.

Chandy said ever since the UDF came to power in 2011, the LDF had been going around saying that the government would fall any time.
