Local lad Aakash jumps to top spot

Aakash Ashok Kumar stormed into the lead on the second day of the 25th National Tenpin Bowling Championship.

Bangalore: Bengaluru boy Aakash Ashok Kumar, who was placed fourth overnight, stormed into the lead on the second day of the 25th National Tenpin Bowling Championship at Blu O, here on Wednesday .

The National elite squad member finished on top with a total pinfall of 2434 and an average of 202.83. The 26-year-old started the day with 189 in game 7 and followed it with scores 205, 195, 248 in the next three games.

The bespectacled youngster's performance was marked by impressive consistency of more than 60 percent strike rate, leading to 10 strikes out of possible 12 in game 11 which fetched him the day's highest score of 267.

But there was a change of fortune in game 12, bringing him three splits and two open frames, leading to a score of a poor 150 in the last game.
The 2011 Commonwealth Championship bronze medalist is closely followed by fellow statemate Girish Gaba and Tamil Nadu duo Dinesh Kumar and Senthil Kumar with 2341, 2315 and 2283 respectively .

The day also saw a commendable comeback from National Development squad member Prathyek Satya. The local lad was languishing at the 58th position after a poor 984 pinfall and average of164.00. In his second block of six games on short oil condition, he produced brilliant tally of 1234 total pinfall and average of 205.67. His valiant attempt saw him jumping 50 positions up to eighth spot.
