Kochi: Kerala high court on Thursday observed that the mass contact programme organised by chief minister Oommen Chandy was beneficial to the public.

The court, however, flayed the government officials for failing to discharge their duties.

“If the government officials had worked sincerely, chief minister Oommen Chandy could have avoided the mass contact programme,” a division bench orally observed.

The bench comprising Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan and Justice Babu Mathew P. Joseph made the oral observation while considering a plea filed by one Surendran regarding an appointment to Kendriya Vidayalaya Sankatan. The bench also observed that the executive was not carrying out its duty.

The court opined that the government officials should show loyalty to their profession and  at least consider the salary they are drawing.

The mass contact programme through which the Chief Minister directly engages with people to address their grievances has become a big hit among the public. In the first edition of the programme,  the Chief Minister had received over five lakh petitions.
