PG student threatens to kill Osmania University law principal
The principal of the Osmania University Law college has filed a complaint.
Hyderabad: The principal of the Osmania University Law college has filed a complaint with the OU police against a law graduate for abusing him based on his caste and threatening to kill him. The principal has tendered his resignation over the incident as well.
K.P. Naik, principal of the OU Law College for the last two-and-a-half years, said, “The student, Prem Kumar, had completed his Bachelor’s in Law in 2012. However, he had Rs 43,000 dues towards hostel fees and mess charges; he has been living at the OU boys’ hostel for the past five years but hasn’t paid a rupee.
The administration had requested him several times to clear his dues and only then would his transfer and conduct certificates be released for further studies. It is the rule of the university to grant these certificates only after candidates clears all dues.”
Prem Kumar had got through his post graduation exam and enrolled himself for L.L.M, OU for which he needed the certificates. “I had personally requested him to pay at least 50 per cent of the amount and take his certificates.
However, he simply refused. On December 10, Prem Kumar barged into my classroom while I was delivering a lecture and used filthy language, abused me and asked why Schedule Tribe candidates were given these top positions. He threatened to kill me as well. Following this, I filed a complaint and resigned. However, my resignation has not been accepted by the Vice-Chancellor.”
A student who witnessed the incident said, “Prem Kumar pushed Rs 1,000 in the principal’s hand and said ‘this amount is towards my dues and I will pay nothing more’. He demanded that the principal release his certificates or he would see the end of him. He had to push Prem Kumar outside the classroom as he was very aggressive and was creating a ruckus.”
Prem Kumar remained unavailable for comments. When contacted, P. Ashok, inspector, OU, said that the case had been filed under SC/ST provisions. “As per law, we need permission from the commissioner of police to go ahead with the case,” he said.
