Tata Open badminton tournament: Sai Praneeth in semis

Mumbai: Men's top seed R.M.V . Gurusaidutt and second seed Sai Praneeth made it to semi-finals in contrasting fashion but defending champion P .C. Thulasi and national champion Sayali Gokhale were knocked out of the $15,000 Tata Open badminton tournament here.

It was a productive day for Gurusaidutt, who first overcame compatriot Mohit Kamat in the pre-quarter finals and then edged out Chia Hung Lu of Chinese Taipei 21-12, 21-18 in the quarter-finals. Joining him in last four was his Pullela Gopichand Academy mate Praneeth, who registered a hardfought 16-21, 21-17, 21-16 victory.
