Kochi: The light music competition at the CBSE state school youth festival attracted many musical talents. Despite the overall standard being slightly below par, two voices stood out. The voices were that of Arathy V. and Athira Suresh who won first and second prize respectively.

Arathy, a 12th standard student of Sree Narayana Public School at Vadakkevila in Kollam, was also declared the winner of  the Devaraja Music Competition. A student of Satheeshan Chirakkara and Rajesh Iravipuram, Arathy proved that she is a prospective talent  for the Malayalam music industry.

Athira Suresh,   a  film actor, anchor and model,  is already a celebrity in her own right. This 12th standard student of Holy Grace Academy at Mala in Thrissur was brimming with confidence as she rendered a mesmerizing song.

Despite ruling the stages at past festivals, Athira had to be content with the second spot this time. She won third prize in classical music competition, second prize in Mappilapattu and an A grade in Mohiniyattom.

Athira plays the female lead in the forthcoming movie Shakthan Thampuran. A native of Kodungalloor, she is also a strong presence in music troupes that perform in Kerala, Bengaluru and the Gulf countries.

Although  disappointed with this year's results, Athira is confident she can make a mark in the film industry with her singing and dancing skills.
