Shankar, more often referred to as 'Oru Thalai Ragam Shankar', had a dream debut with the campus romantic film in Tamil which ran for more than a year at a stretch. Shankar, after acting in few K’town movies, shifted focus to Malayalam and his debut, 'Manjil Virinja Pookkal', where Mohanlal was introduced as a villain, turned out to be a huge hit. There has been no looking back after that and today he has 225 films to his credit. Having tested his directorial quest in Mollywood, Shankar is now directing a Tamil film, titled 'Manal Nagaram'. VJ Prajin, Gautham Krishna and Tejasvini act in the lead and Varuna Shetty from Dubai is being introduced in it.

Talking to DC, he says, “I am exploring the lives and predicaments faced by people who go from India to the Arab countries for better fortunes, leaving behind their kith and kin. The story unfolds in Dubai, with most part of the film being shot there. The 50-day shooting was very tough and challenging. The movie also deals with romance and friendship. Actually, the story is penned by my friend Muraliraman from Dubai and produced by yet another buddy, Vasanth, from Chennai who wrote the screenplay.”
