Bangalore: For those residing at LR Nagar and Vivek Nagar, near the Infant Jesus Church, the narrow bridge over the Raj Kaluve causes traffic snarls and frayed tempers.

Though the bridge provides vital link to Adugodi and Austin Town, its width is mere eight feet, barely enough for an autoricshaw or a small car to pass.

Residents said the bridge leads to two roads that shortens their commute to Adugodi and Austin Town by 4-5 km.  The bridge also happens to be close to an under-construction shopping mall in the area.

The traffic jams are acute on Thursdays and Sundays, owing to heavy rush to the Infant Jesus Church. Nearby residents complain that quite often auto drivers get into heated altercation with two-wheeler riders while crossing the bridge.

The residents are also concerned about the poor condition of the bridge. They said that during rains and the Raja Kaluve gets swollen and they fear the bridge may collapse. "When the water levels rise, using the bridge seems dangerous. The bridge has not seen repairs for a long time and might collapse if it rains heavily," a local resident said.

Deccan Chronicle's repeated attempts to contact local corporator Lokesh Nayak were unsuccessful. Mayor Katte Sathyanarayana, when contacted, requested that an email or and SMS regarding the issue be sent to him.
