Flyover: CPM demands action

Vijayawada: The CPM’s city unit continued to exert pressure on the government to act against those responsible for the collapse of a part of the under-construction flyover at Gunadala on Monday, with party’s city secretary Ch. Babu Rao demanding specialists to probe the reasons behind the mishap.

Babu Rao demanded the government immediately assign a team of specialists to thoroughly investigate the flyover’s collapse and also blacklisting of the RSV Constructions, the firm constructing the flyover.

The Left party leader told the media here that the state government, VGMT UDA, R&B department, and the municipal corporation have totally ignored the issue. “Not even preliminary investigation has been taken up by the concerned officials even though a week has passed after four slabs of the flyover at Gunadala on Budmeru canal collapsed,” Babu Rao said.?

“Despite it being termed as “a city on the fast track”, the government is least bothered about a major lapse in construction of the prestigious Inner Ring Road,” he said.

“The MP and MLAs of the city are the major hurdles to the city’s development,” Babu Rao said, alleging that RSV Construction had sub-contracted the flyover work to a third party which did not maintain any standards.

“Doubts over the quality of material used in the construction are surfacing ever so often, but the officials are deliberately ignoring them,” he said.?
