Jairam Ramesh’s 'virgin’ comment shocks all
Union Minister says 'Modi's talking about Lokayukta is like Asaram speaking of virginity'.
New Delhi: A day after BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi sought to ridicule Congress for its support to Lokpal Bill by questioning absence of a Lokayukta in Uttarakhand, Union rural development minister Jairam Ramesh attacked him, saying “Mr Modi’s talking about Lokayukta is like Asaram speaking of virginity.”
The Union minister said, “The guy who did not appoint a Lokayukta for a decade has no right to sermon others.”
After the Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had come out in the open to support the Lokpal Bill, Modi in Dehradun on Sunday had raised the issue of the absence of a Lokayukta in Uttarak-hand.
“There is Mr Khanduri’s (former Uttarakhand CM B.C. Khanduri) Lokayukta Act in Uttarakhand but there are some issues about that. But very soon we will have one there,” Ramesh said, while speaking to reporters.
The Union rural development minister drew an analogy of Asaram who is in jail for allegedly sexually assaulting one of his follower. He is a staunch critic of Modi within the Congress and never shies away from taking a potshot at the Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate.
The Union minister was reacting to questions on Mr Modi’s attack on Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
The Gujarat Chief Minister on Sunday had questioned why the Congress, which is pushing the Lokpal Bill, was not implementing the Lokay-ukta Act brought in by the previous BJP government in Uttarakhand.
Ramesh also termed the Lokayukta Act passed by the earlier BJP government a “Jokepal.”
